The 2011 season drew to a close with the Cats taking on the newest franchise, the Ellenbrook Eels, in the marquee game last Sunday.
The Cats started slowly due to inaccurate kicking, thanks entirely to out of sorts forward, Hillbilly Hill, who continually let his midfielders down with poor shots at goal and a tally of one point and three out of bounds on the full. Fortunately, late goals late from Lazza and Sunny Garcia kept the Cats in the game at quarter time. Brett ‘Kervo’ Kervin tried hard, busting through packs with every possession to provide his team mates a continual supply of hospital passes. However, there were strong performances from the man know only as “H”, Sully and Scanno across half back. Unfortunately the lowlight of the day went to Hill for emulating his idol Serena Williams at three quarter time, only to be yellow carded for his efforts. At the post match function several sources noted his attempts to bribe umpire Sporty to rescind the card so that he could avoid buying a carton for the boys at training. In a stirring three quarter time address, coach McPherson declared that he was retiring at the end of the season after accepting an offer to coach the Melbourne little league development squad. McPherson soon had a change of heart after consulting diehard Demon Kervo who advised him that heading to the Demons would lead to a life of misery. Still, the stirring address was enough to get the Cats over the line by 1 point as the man known only as “H” nailed a set shot to goal with the last kick of the day to invoke celebrations not seen since Garth “Tiger” O’Leary completed a game without breaking down. |
