A change of tactics by Cats’ coach GB McPherson proved a masterstroke as he switched the regular back line to the forward line, resulting in a three goal win against Brentwood-Booragoon.

By half time, Paul Neretlis and Sunny Garcia each had two majors and were proving to be lively targets for the Cats’ midfielders, although Garcia’s third attempt provided much hilarity for the crowd when his shot from 10 metres dribbled along the ground without scoring. Unfortunately, Garcia appeared flustered when light rain began to fall and he was unsure whether he should kick for goal or enforce the “no play if raining” clause of his contract for the second game in a row.

There were many strong individual efforts, including game turning tackles from GPS Mills and Brad Simolicious, who had his first tackle since under 9s when he managed to catch his sister. Other memorable moments included Brett Kervball’s accidental smother after the ball was kicked directly into his solar plexus and Timmy “Where am I?” McPherson, who struggled to his feet after a tap to the head before advising medical staff that he wouldn’t leave the field unless it was on a medical cart driven by Docker Pileggi.

Late goals in the final quarter to Matt “TR” Ellis and star recruit Garth ‘The Gun’ O’Leary sealed an outstanding win by the rampaging Cats.

In good news for Cats’ fans, Echo favourite Anzac Netscher will be back in action shortly after rejecting an offer to join the Chippendales. Netscher’s high profile manager, Wolfie Westphal, confirmed that Anzac had been offered a role after nailing the audition, but had turned it down when told by Chippendale management that he would not be allowed to wear his blue and white mankini on stage.
